A founding director of Composers Concordance, Joseph Pehrson has for three decades worked on behalf the organization while pursuing his own varied and distinctive music. Originally from Detroit, Joe studied at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan (Doctor of Musical Arts 1981). Joe's teachers included composers Leslie Bassett, Joseph Schwantner, and, informally, Otto Luening and Elie Siegmeister in New York. Joe has written works for a wide variety of media which have been performed at numerous venues including Merkin Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space in New York and throughout the United States, Eastern Europe and Russia. In 2008, he participated in a festival at the "House of Composers" in St. Petersburg. Linda Past-Pehrson danced to three electronic pieces in alternate tunings as part of this festival. In Moscow, Joe had five chamber pieces presented at the "Jurgenson Salon," and Linda Past-Pehrson danced to six electronic pieces in alternate tunings at the "Fireplace Hall" of the "Central Building for Workers of Art, (TsDRI)." In 2009 Italian trumpeter Ivano Ascari toured the U.S. with a piece that Joe composed for him. In 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 several chamber works were presented by the Composers Concordance, the New York Composers' Circle and Dan Barrett’s 'International Street Cannibals.' Pehrson has works recorded on Capstone and New Ariel CDs and several pieces are published by Seesaw Music, Corp., a division of Subito Music.
A founding director of Composers Concordance, Patrick Hardish has for three decades worked on behalf the organization while pursuing his own distinctive chamber music compositions. Patrick studied at Juilliard, CUNY-Queens College (BA), Bennington College, and Columbia University. Before becoming a composer, he played drums professionally for several years in dance bands, and to a lesser extent in musicals. Patrick also holds a MS degree in information science from the Pratt Institute. His music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, Brazil and Japan. Commissions have come from the Composers Guild of New Jersey, Queens Philharmonia, Adolphe Saxquartette, and the North/South Consonance Ensemble, among others. Patrick's music is published by Calabrese Brothers Music and Deffner Publications, and recorded on Capstone Records (The Hoffmann/Goldstein Duo) and Finnadar (William Schimmel, accordion). His music can be heard on the soundtrack of the film 'Immortal Cupboard,' by Cathy Cook. Two new CDs to be released soon by Esther Lamneck, clarinet and The Hoffmann/Goldstein Duo will include two recent works of Patrick's. He has been in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, lectured and given presentations of his music at New York University and the Governor's School for the Gifted in Virginia, been guest composer at WNYC-FM, WKCR-FM Radio and Columbia University, received several awards from Meet The Composer, and been awarded the Margaret Fairbanks Jory Copying Assistance Program Award from the American Music Center. Patrick has contributed to Notes (of the Music Library Association) and the New Music Connoisseur magazine, where he serves on that magazine's Editorial Board. He recently retired from a job as a Senior Librarian with The New York Public Library.

One of the most prolific composers on the scene today, Gene Pritsker brings to Composers Concordance immense energy, astute leadership, and collaborative spirit. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Gene grew up in Brooklyn New York - following stints on violin and piano, he began playing guitar at age twelve. Gene has written over 400 compositions, including chamber operas, orchestral and chamber works, electro-acoustic music, and songs for hip-hop and rock ensembles, etc. His compositions employ an eclectic spectrum of styles, and are influenced by his studies of various musical cultures. The New York Times has described Gene as "...audacious...multitalented." Raul d'Gama Rose of All About Jazz has written "Barring the obvious exceptions, much of 21st century composition appears to be thinning in significance, but this might be about to change. Gene Pritsker is one of a very spare handful of composers effecting this change." Gene is the founder and leader of Sound Liberation, a hiphop-chamber-jazz-rock-etc ensemble which has released CDs on Col-legno and Innova Records. Gene's music has been performed all over the world, at various festivals, and by many ensembles and performers, including the Adelaide Symphony, The Athens Camarata, Brooklyn and Berlin Philharmonic. He has worked closely with Joe Zawinul and has orchestrated major Hollywood movies. In 2010, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers' recorded Gene's 'Variations on Sakura, Sakura' for Koch Records. In 2011, Gene's piano concerto 'Reinvention' was recorded for Sony Records by pianist Simone Dinnerstein, conductor Kristjan Järvi, and the Absolute Ensemble. Gene's original music and orchestrations will soon be heard in the movie 'Cloud Atlas,' starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, directed by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski Brothers. Sound Liberation will perform at the 2011 Bremen Musikfest in Germany. A Manhattan-native composer with extensive academic and world-touring experience, Dan Cooper brings to Composers Concordance excellent communication skills, innovative ideas, and a highly-discerning ear. Dan was educated at The Horace Mann School, Columbia University, The New England Conservatory, and Princeton University. Principal teachers include John Heiss, Steve Mackey, and Paul Lansky, and for several years, Dan worked as Otto Luening's assistant. In 2000, Dan was the Aaron Copland composition fellow at Tanglewood, where he studied with Osvaldo Golijov, Michael Gandolfi, and Chen Yi, and worked as an assistant to Louis Andriessen. Dan's music has been noted in American Record Guide, The Associated Press, Berkshire Eagle, The Boston Globe, and Fanfare Magazine, among others - "contemporary impressionism," "inventive," "drawing on vernacular styles," "vibrant," "especially fascinating," "full of instrumental virtuosity and sly humor", "whimsical", "carefree", "acute", "daring", "well-plotted", "hauntingly beautiful", and with a "spirit of originality, verve, and humor, now being passed on to a new generation". As a composer: awards, commissions, residencies, recordings, and premieres from Albany Symphony, Albany Records, ASCAP, Artists International, B3+, Cary Trust, Circadia, Electro-Music, Empire State Youth Orchestra, Engine 27, Femmes Four, Imani Winds, ISC, Lumina String Quartet, Majestic Brass, Meet the Composer, NARAS, NYNME, New York Youth Symphony, Norwalk Youth Symphony, Palisades Virtuosi, and Sweet Plantain, among others. As a multi-instrumentalist, Dan has performed internationally at such venues as Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Town Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Staatsoper Berlin, Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Chicago Theater, Davies Hall, Massey Hall, Royal Festival Hall, The Blue Note, CBGB's, LPR, and Joe's Pub, among many others, plus broadcasts on NBC, BBC, Radio France, Bravo, & RAI. Cooper endorses Overwater bass guitars of Carlisle, U.K. Cooper is currently a music professor at SUNY-FIT, and also teaches music and Shakespeare classes at Greenwich House Senior Center in NYC.

The newest co-director of Composers Concordance, Milica Paranosic is a highly-accomplished composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and technologist, with excellent organizational and social skills, plus a community-mindedness that's international in scope. A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Milica holds a Bachelor's degree in composition from Belgrade Music University, and a Master's degree in composition from The Juilliard School in NYC, where she has been on the faculty since 1995. Additionally, Milica teaches at the 92Y and at Brandies High School, as an American Composers Orchestra Artist-in-Residence. Milica is one of composer-critic Kyle Gann's "Favorite Women Composers of All Time." She's been called a "..free-wheeling, performance-art-type cat" by Gann, "..painter, a musical Jackson Pollack," by Eric Somers for SEAMUS, and "..edgily comical" by Klaus Klingbeil for Der Lausitzer Rundschau. Allan Kozinn of The New York Times labeled Milica's "Parabaraba," a piece commissioned and performed by the New Juilliard Ensemble, "the most captivating piece on the program," and Jack Anderson of The New York Times has described Milica's music as "..amazing..astonishing.." Honors and awards: ASCAP Plus Award (multiple times,) the John Erskine Prize, Composer Assistance Program, Meet the Composer Grant, Whitaker New Music Reading Sessions, October Award of the City of Belgrade, Stevan Hristic Award, UKS Annual Award, American Music Center, the Soros foundation, and Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, FK Partizan - Belgrade, among others. Milica is a co-founder and was a producer of 'Beyond the Machine,' Juilliard's Festival of Electronic and Interactive Music for ten years, a residence composer and multimedia director of VisionIntoArt, an interdisciplinary production and performance team. As an educator, producer and performing artist, Milica strives to create new worlds in which contrasting concepts vividly coexist in unique textures. Her art and her adventurous, exploring nature has brought her all over the U.S., Europe, Brazil, and to Ghana, where her 'Give to Grow' education project has brought music technology to developing communities.
